FAST TV SUPPORT
Set up Fast TV.
Connect your Mac to Google TV, add your videos, and start watching.
What you need
- A Mac with Apple silicon running macOS 13 or later.
- A Google TV or Android TV device running Android 7 or later.
- Both devices connected to the same trusted home network.
- A local video file you have permission to watch.
Supported file types
- Video: MP4, M4V, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, MPEG, MPG, TS and M2TS.
- Audio: MP3, M4A, AAC, FLAC, WAV and OGG. Drag audio files into the playlist to add them.
- External subtitles: SRT and WebVTT (VTT).
A file’s extension identifies its format, but playback also depends on the video and audio codecs inside it and your TV’s capabilities. H.264 or HEVC video with AAC audio is recommended. Fast TV can prepare compatible audio when needed; it does not convert unsupported video codecs.
Connect in a few steps
- Install Fast TV on your Mac and the Google TV receiver on your TV.
- Open Fast TV on the TV. Leave its pairing screen visible.
- On the Mac, drag a video into the playlist. Choose the TV, click Cast, and enter the six-digit PIN shown on your TV.
- Keep your Mac awake and connected. Use either the Mac or your TV remote to control playback.
Add subtitles
Place SRT or WebVTT subtitle files beside the video, or in a folder named Subs or Subtitles inside the movie folder. Select the video in the Mac app to see its available subtitles. You can also add a subtitle with Choose file… in the Subtitles section. Choose a track on the Mac or use the CC control on your TV.
If your TV doesn’t appear
Make sure Fast TV is open on the TV and both devices use the same network. Allow local network access on the Mac. Guest Wi-Fi, VPNs, or router device isolation can prevent the devices from finding each other. Use a trusted home network and try scanning again.
If playback is interrupted
Keep the Mac awake and the original file available. For large videos, a stable Wi-Fi connection or Ethernet helps. Files protected by DRM cannot be played. Video codec support can vary by TV.
Manage your licence
The Mac app is free to download. A one-time licence is required to stream to your TV.
Open Licence in the Mac app to activate a purchased key, check its status, or deactivate this Mac. A licence supports up to two Macs. Internet access is required for activation and a licence check at least every 30 days; movie playback stays on your local network.
